Days Off...Finally!!!

Well, not quite so finally, but that's how I felt a couple days ago when I did finally get some days off. Spent three weeks building, moving, and rigging up this new drill rig. That's three weeks solid, twelve to fourteen hours a day. I can't say it sucked, but it wasn't a joyous adventure. Working like that doesn't give you much time for family or any kind of social life, and I've been pretty well dead the past two days.

Friday before last everybody was starting to get a little cranky, but moods lifted when we were told we were getting trucks last Sunday. So, last weekend and Monday were pretty decent days, we were busy as hell, and new that days off were coming up on the horizon, just not sure when they would show themselves. Kinda like when you're camping and you can see the sky getting a little more purple than black in the mornings, but you don't have a watch. You know the sun will be rising before long, you're just not sure exactly how long it will be. Come Monday afternoon, and Tuesday moods started to drift down again. We had damn near run out of things to do, and still didn't know when we were going to break tour. (Pronounced tower) So, Tuesday afternoon we finally learn that we were breaking tour Wednesday. Everybody was pretty damn happy, some still had a week of work to go, but they knew when they were getting day off next. Now, you have to remember that most of us were working on this thing for three or four week solid or nearly solid. That's three to four weeks, of not being home much or at all for some, not seeing our kids, not kissing momma, not petting momma on the short hairs, not patting the dog on the head, not sitting back relaxing and having a Jack and Coke or cold beer. Basically, that time was spent on nothing but that damn rig. But, in the end, with the seven days off, and a pretty damn nice check... It almost evens out.

While At Work....

I overheard part of a conversation a couple of guys were having, and the term casual sex was thrown in there for some reason unknown to me. I'm not sure what the conversation was about or where it lead after that, but that part stood out to me, for one reason mainly. What the hell is casual sex? The way I see it, sex is about as far from casual as you can get. Hell, even hiring a hooker takes some planning and work. I have never thought or said to myself, "Damn, I'd like to have me some sex right about now." and have my wife just pop up out of nowhere, and then when it's over, poof, she's gone. Back to The Simpson's.

You can have a casual day, casual dress, casual meal, casual drive or ride. But casual sex, hell no! Your boss says you can dress casually of Friday? You know you can take that damn bun out and lose the jacket, or wear a polo instead of your button up, khaki pants instead of slacks? Yea that's kinda casual. A restaurant that doesn't have a maitre d' wearing a five thousand dollar suit. Yea that's a casual dinner. Just driving around the local lake, or around town? Yea, that's a casual drive. Spending two hundred dollars at the bar trying to pick someone up just to resort to your "friend with benefits". (Read - Backup plan) Then getting everything set up; mood music, dim the lights, maybe set some candles, a shower if there's time, and probably afterwards, etc... NO, that's far from casual. I spend less time getting ready for a anniversary date with my wife, than I do getting ready for sex. Hell, most people spend less time planning a birthday party than they do trying to get some casual sex.

There are plenty of things in this world that you can do casually, or that are casual. But, sex is not one of them.

I Say He Is.

Just came across this article at Yahoo News. This Veteran of World War Two, was told that he wasn't a legal U.S. Citizen when he went to get an enhanced drivers license to make a trip to Canada to see family and friends. He was born in British Columbia to parents that were U.S. Citizens. So, by our laws he should be a naturalized citizen. But, his parents didn't fill out the appropriate paperwork, so now he's buried in paper and red tape.

Here's Ya Some Perspective.

These two images kind of go hand in hand.
The first shows just how much our government is blowing with bail-outs,
foreign relief efforts, and our national debt.
The second one, tells just how good some of us have it.
